Week 101 (The Last Week)
Yup. I just finished my final week on the mission. We set high goals this week and made it count, we achieved every goal and we're feeling pretty good! I'll be honest, it doesn't seem real quite yet. I feel like I'm going to be a missionary forever and I have a little bit of mixed feelings as I'm nearing the end. Not too sure how I should feel about it.
But I do know how amazing the mission has been. As I think back on these last 2 years I can't believe the opportunities I've had and the wonderful things I've been able to be a part of. I've gotten to experience so many cultures and meet so many wonderful people. While things like that have been amazing, the best and most important things I've experienced have been the spiritual experiences. As a missionary you are put in lots of spiritual situations and it's humbling to be a part of. It's crazy what happens when you put the Savior in the center of your life and spend every waking hour trying to help others come closer to Him.
I was looking at some old Emails and I looked at the first email I sent in Spain and I mentioned some differences I saw and it was pretty funny. After almost 2 years in Spain, maybe I'll make a list of some more things that I've noticed and still surprise me.
- People in Europe can parallel park like madmen and it still leaves me bewildered.
- All of the Spanish food is great, especially their bread, I'm gonna miss that stuff.
- The pace of Spain is much... slower than the United States, that might be a culture shock when I come back.
- Eating dinner at 6 seems way too early for me now. Dinner at 10 is definitely the way to go.
- Spain is the biggest melting pot of cultures that I've ever seen. You can meet the whole world here.
- Spanish people love to talk and I love it.
- The tomato is king, people love tomatoes here.
- A million other things as well.
I love these two verses from Alma 17.
"1 And now it came to pass that as Alma was journeying from the land of Gideon southward, away to the land of Manti, behold, to his astonishment, he met with the sons of Mosiah journeying towards the land of Zarahemla. 2 Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God."
Looking forward to seeing you all soon. I will be spending next week in Spain with my parents, another week or so in Utah and then I'll be back in Reno.
I'll be giving my homecoming talk on June 30th at 10:30 AM at the Robb Drive church building across the street from McQueen High School. I'd love to see you all there.
Os quiero un montón.
